Dana Super 60 from a 2008 Ford F-450. The Dana Super 60 is an upgraded version of the Dana 60 axle. Differences in the Dana Super 60 versus the regular Dana 60: Larger and thicker diameter steel tubes (3.75 inches diameter and ½ in thick) Larger ring and pinion which increase the contact area and overall strength.
For model year 2000 - 2004 trucks, the F-150 7700 offered this axle and the F-250 light duty was discontinued. At least till 2011 the 12 bolt semi float was still found with the heavy duty f-150. Gear ratios were 3.73 in 4x4 and either the 3.73 or 4.10 in the two-wheel-drive models. This was available in both limited slip and standard variations.
All F-450 and F-550 chassis-cab trucks used a solid front axle, and on 4×4 models, the Dana 60 front axle was replaced with a Dana Super 60 for 2005. The leaf springs were also changed to coil springs for 2005. 2008–2010 and 2015–2018 F-450 pickups used Dana S 110 rear axles, while 2011–2014 F-450 pickups used Dana 80 axles.
The F-150 4×4 continued the use of the Dana 44 Twin-Traction Beam axle from the 1980–1991 trucks, and the Ford 8.8" rear straight axle. The Dana/Spicer Model 70 is an automotive axle manufactured by Dana Holding Corporation and has been used in OEM heavy duty applications by Chevrolet, Dodge, and Ford. It can be identified by its straight axle tubes, 10 bolt asymmetrical cover, and a "70" cast in to the housing, which is visually similar to the Dana 60 .
The Dana 60 front axle is used on both medium- and light-duty Super Duty trucks. Furthermore, the Big Three share/shared parts between the companies, reducing costs. The Dana S 110 is currently being used for the rear drive, under Ford and Ram's medium-duty trucks. The Dana 110 was also used on the General Motors 4×4s.
