The U.S. state of West Virginia has 55 counties. Fifty of them existed at the time of the Wheeling Convention in 1861, during the American Civil War, when those counties seceded from the Commonwealth of Virginia to form the new state of West Virginia. [1] West Virginia was admitted as a separate state of the United States on June 20, 1863. [2]

The western terminus of the route is at West Virginia Route 2 in Follansbee. The eastern terminus is at the Pennsylvania state line near Eldersville, Pennsylvania, where the road continues as Eldersville Road (State Route 4008). Unlike most alternate state routes, Alternate WV 27 does not connect with its parent WV 27 route.

US 30 in West Virginia starts off at the corner of the Ohio River, where it immediately runs into Chester. After about 0.4 miles (0.64 km), the highway has an interchange with WV 2. The freeway portion that was carried over from Ohio ends shortly after. After an intersection with WV 8, US 30 continues into Pennsylvania.
The current alignment of WV 17 was once part of U.S. Route 119.US 119 was moved off of this routing when Corridor G was complete from Chapmanville to Danville by 1976. Once that section of four-lane highway was completed, US 119 was realigned to follow WV 10 north from Logan to Chapmanville and then the new Corridor G. [2]
West Virginia Route 112 is an east–west state highway in southern West Virginia. The western terminus is at U.S. Route 19 east of Bluefield, in the shadow of a "bridge to nowhere" [2] on the future King Coal Highway. The eastern terminus is at U.S. Route 460 in Oakvale. WV 112 was formerly a portion of WV 12.

The western terminus of the route is at West Virginia Route 20 a half-mile north of Romines Mills and eight miles (13 km) southeast of Clarksburg. The eastern terminus is at U.S. Route 119 southwest of Philippi.
