A cavernous liver hemangioma or hepatic hemangioma is a benign tumor of the liver composed of large vascular spaces lined by monolayer hepatic endothelial cells. It is the most common benign liver tumour, and is usually asymptomatic and diagnosed incidentally on radiological imaging or during laparotomy for other intra-abdominal issues.
Cavernous hemangiomas are erroneously called the most common benign tumors of the liver. [14] Usually one malformation exists, but multiple lesions can occur in the left or right lobe of the liver in 40% of patients. [3] Their sizes can range from a few millimeters to 20 centimetres. Those over 5 cm are often referred to as giant hemangiomas. [3]

Liver hemangiomas do not usually cause symptoms. [2] [5] They are usually small, with sizes up to 10 centimeters. [5] Their size tends to remain stable overtime. [5] However, if the hemangioma is large it can cause abdominal pain, a sense of fullness in right upper abdominal area, heart problems, and coagulation dysfunction.
Hemangiosarcoma of the spleen or liver is the most common tumor to cause hemorrhage in the abdomen. [4] Hemorrhage secondary to splenic and hepatic tumors can also cause ventricular arrhythmias . Hemangiosarcoma of the skin usually appears as a small red or bluish-black lump.
Liver angiosarcoma usually presents with vague and non-specific symptoms such as abdominal pain, abdominal distension (which are the two most common symptoms, occurring in around 60% of individuals [3]), weight loss, fatigue or abdominal masses and liver disease like symptoms such as fever, malaise, anorexia and vomiting.
The liver is the most common organ involvement in diffuse neonatal hemangiomatosis, and its involvement can be determined through imaging and presence of hepatomegaly, or enlarged liver. [6] The multiple lesions on the liver cause arteriovenous shunts, causing high-output heart failure and pulmonary hypertension as compensation.
BRBNS is a venous malformation, [4] formerly, though incorrectly, thought to be related to the hemangioma. It sometimes causes serious bleeding. [5] Lesions are most commonly found on the skin and in the small intestine and distal large bowel. The lesions can also be found in the central nervous system, liver, and muscles. [6]
