The Kalka–Shimla Railway is a 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow-gauge railway in North India which traverses a mostly mountainous route from Kalka to Shimla.It is known for dramatic views of the hills and surrounding villages.
Shimla railway station is located at an altitude of 2,075 metres (6,808 ft) above mean sea level. [2] It was allotted the railway code of SML under the jurisdiction of Ambala railway division. The three routes together have been titled the Mountain Railways of India under UNESCO World Heritage Site criteria ii and iv, within the Asia-Pacific region.
