The Yale School of Nursing (YSN) is the nursing school of Yale University, located in West Haven, Connecticut.It is among the top 20 graduate nursing schools in the country, according to the latest rankings by U.S. News & World Report (2024).
Margaret G. Arnstein (October 27, 1904 – October 9, 1972) [1] was an American health expert who focused her efforts in nursing and public health. Throughout her life Arnstein worked for the United States public health sector and several American colleges, eventually becoming dean of the Yale School of Nursing in 1967.
Azita Emami is a Linda Koch Lorimer Professor and the Dean of Nursing at Yale School of Nursing since 2023. She is the former Robert G. and Jean A. Reid Dean of Nursing at the University of Washington from 2018 to 2023. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
Florence Wald (April 19, 1917 – November 8, 2008) was an American nurse, former Dean of Yale School of Nursing, and largely credited as "the mother of the American hospice movement". [ 1 ] [ 2 ] She led the founding of Connecticut Hospice, the first hospice program in the United States.
In 1993 in Washington, D.C., she was awarded the Nurse Scientist of the Year by the Council of Nurse Researchers. In 2001 she became the Florence S. Wald Professor at the Yale School of Nursing. In 2007 in New Orleans she received the Distinguished Research Award from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
She then became an assistant professor at Yale School of Nursing and later the Director of Nursing at the Connecticut Mental Health Center. [4] [5] In 1972, she incorporated the Jackie Robinson Development Corporation, a real estate development company specializing in low- to moderate-income housing, and served as president for ten years.
