I have "allow apps to access your microphone" turned on and "allow desktop apps to access your microphone" on too which includes MS teams. Under the sound settings I have the handsfree microphone option selected but there's no option to test my microphone (see below). I've troubleshoot but it doesn't detect a problem.

Hi, I can use my Sony WH-1000XM5's microphone on my work laptop (win11), but somehow the microphone doesn't work on my personal computer (win11). Is there any settings that I need to check to resolve this? What I've done. 1. re-pairing the headphones. 2. re-installing the bluetooth drivers for the headphones. 3. making sure my PC is fully updated
The Bluetooth standard has 2 audio codec --- a high bitrate audio codec for music and a low bitrate audio codec for telephone calls. In order to use the microphone, you have to use the low bitrate audio codec. All the wireless gaming headsets use 2.4 GHz USB dongles --- they don't use Bluetooth.
The only available option is the Realtek microphone which is the default recording device. Apparently Realtek should automatically switch over from the laptop's in-built microphone to the headset microphone when it's plugged in and therefore a separate entry for my headset microphone doesn't need to pop up in this window when it's plugged in.
