My 01 Tacoma's check engine light came on yesterday afternoon here in Boston and with a code checker learned it was PO420, "Catalyst system efficiency below threshold Bank 1" With my general research I understand its a problem with the catalytic convertor and problem could be a sensor or the entire catalytic convertor...
My check engine light came on, had Autozone test it and it came back P0420 – Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold. Tacoma 2003 2wd 4cyl 178,000 miles runs fine, never have had a major problem. I called a dealership and was told if I needed a new converter it would cost $1500-2100 depending on the type I needed.
The reason the check engine light goes on with P0420 code is because when you are driving at a constant speed, the flow in exhaust creates a vacuum and pull fresh air from exterior by the hole and falls the o2 sensors reading... Verify leaks by blocking muffler and check for very small leaks, specially near o2 sensors!!
On My 2001 Tacoma, V6 3.4L - The P0420 Check engine light has come on. On the highway when I reach around 50 MPH or so I notice that the truck starts acting a little weird and seems to struggle a little, loosing power and seems to be struggle to keep up with that speed. Otherwise the truck performs great on speeds leading up to that.
knows. But if you get a Check Engine light and both PO420 and PO430 kick on at the same time run some ethanol free gas for a couple of tanks or the ethanol removal additive. Since if it is a bad Cat or O2 sensor it should only be one at a time. Both on is the indicator.
hey guys, my check engine light came on last night, I checked it and got the "PO420 Catalyst efficiency below threshold" what would it most likly be? the catalyst or the O2 sensor(s)? Or could it be something else? I just did a tune up, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, synthetic oil it's a '96, Tacoma 4x4, 2.7, 183K miles Thanks
check engine light comes on after a few days with the same original check engine code that sparked this in the first place "PO420, "Catalyst system efficiency below threshold Bank 1" (this is the only code it shows) wondering if the new sensor could be bad or is there likely a deeper problem and what should i do now to tackle this.
I got the dreaded check engine light this weekend. I have an OBD-II bluetooth scanner with Torque so I was able to check it and clear it, but I am concerned about it. It hasn't come back yet after a week of driving. My truck has 135k miles and I don't think any work has ever been done to the catalytic converter system.
This was my truck's first extended interstate run, and he hit the 1000 mile mark on the rebuild- I was happy about that, until the check engine light came on about 3/4 of the way home. I got into the area, stopped at Advance and used their scanner- and it gave me the code PO420- Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1).
Hey everyone. I have a 2008 Toyota Tacoma SR5 2.7l 5sp with around 170k miles. Recently my check engine light came on and it’s putting out a P0420 code. Anyone have experience with this? I googled it and said it’s a clogged cat. The guy at autozone said it could be a leak from the manifold.
