On October 17, 2006, the Kansas City, Missouri, Aviation Department announced plans to build a $20 million aircraft hangar complex at the Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport including: 122 T-hangars, 13 box hangars, a 40,000-square-foot (4,000 m 2) terminal building with offices, a pilots' lounge, meeting rooms and a destination restaurant.
When beef was rationed during World War II, the restaurant began serving a pan-fried chicken dinner for 35 cents. [2] [3] Other menu items at this time included long end ribs for 15 cents and goose livers for 10 cents. [4] In 1977, Mike Donegan and Jim Hogan purchased the restaurant and inherited some of the original recipes. [2] [4]

Sanderson’s Lunch. A 24/7 downtown diner that drew a wide demographic — some showed up daily — it moved to midtown and then south Kansas City. It opened in 1912 and closed in 2000.
But the South Plaza (5000 Main St., 816-753-9499) and downtown (418 W. Ninth St., 816-221-7470) locations have different ownership, and they keep the grills firing deeper into the night.
