Many art historians believe that the manner in which the horses and carriages are cropped in the painting are the result of influence of photography. Art historian Aaron Scharf has compared this painting to an album of stereoscopic photographs called Vues instantanées de Paris taken by the photographer Hippolyte Jouvin.

Sam Savitt (March 22, 1917 – December 25, 2000) was an equine artist, author, and teacher, as well as an illustrator of over 130 books, in addition to 16 that he wrote. He was designated the official illustrator of the United States Equestrian Team, and was a founding member of the American Academy of Equine Art. [1]
The Sporting Magazine published 114 plates by Hall. [8] He also worked for The Illustrated London News. [9] Hall began life as a portrait painter and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1838, however his career was established on his first equestrian work being given at the Royal Academy in 1845 when he exhibited a Suffolk cob from Newmarket.
