Sukuma wiki, a Swahili phrase which literally means "to push the week", is a simple dish made with greens similar to kale or collards that can also be made with cassava leaves, sweet potato leaves, or pumpkin leaves. Its Swahili name comes from the fact that it is typically eaten to "get through the week" or "stretch the week".

It is appropriate that the title of this section has a question mark. As a matter of fact, I would like to know in which parts of East Africa the name sukuma wiki is used for collards. In all the places where I have been, the name is used for the kale varieties grown here. Collards are called spinachi. Dogo 17:08, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
