I took it to A.U.M. (Auburn Univ. at Montgomery) and asked an Archeologist about it. He took one look at it and told me it was a mastadon tooth, a molar, and to be exact an upper rear molar, showing me pics of the teeth in a skull. He said it could be as old as 9000 years old. Scientists have worked out part of the genetic structure of the mastodon, a giant primitive elephant, after finding DNA preserved in the fossilised tooth of a beast that died up to 130,000 years ago. The creature is thought to have roamed the forests and plains of North America before dying and s...
In a world first, a species of animal has been found to have teeth coated in iron to help keep them sharp. Measuring up to 3 meters long and weighing in at up to 160kg, the Komodo dragon, which is native to several islands in Indonesia, is the world's largest living lizard species. Although they typically don't attack humans, these powerful ...
The original discovery was made from some teeth found in a shipment of "dragon bones." The 12 foot height was the initial estimate based on the size of the teeth -- current estimate is that they were about 9 feet tall (just at the upper range of known living human beings.)

The legend is believed to date back to 1609 when Samuel de Champlain wrote an account of a serpent-like creature measuring 5 ft long with large teeth, a body as thick as a man's thigh and tough silver-grey scales that his blade could not penetrate. These days, the lake remains a popular tourist destination and stories of the creature ...
Now, two years on, researchers have finally solved the mystery of who this man was. In all likelihood, he was Joachim du Bellay - a celebrated French poet who had died in Paris in 1560 at the age of 37. Born in 1522, Bellay was the co-founder of a circle of poets known as La Pleiade and records show that he was buried somewhere in Notre Dame ...
The largest individuals may have been 70% heavier and 25% longer than anything we've seen so far. " [We] really have no idea from the fossil record about the absolute sizes they might have reached," said Dr Jordan Mallon of the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa. "It's fun to think about a 15 tonne T. rex, but the implications are also ...
What is not described is: a head, a mouth, teeth, or a tail. There is very little to go on here. We don't know if the flippers were close to each other or anything about the shape of the head if there was one. It is really stretching things to pick anything in particular such as a squid or a marine reptile.
