Rapidgrass is an American bluegrass band founded in Golden, Colorado in 2012. Although they are widely considered a bluegrass band, their genre of music can best be described as "rapidgrass" due to its furious pace and its wide range of influences including gypsy jazz, bluegrass, swing and classical music.
The band developed both a bluegrass and jam band fan base, and can often be found on tour. Their debut album Elevation was released on Frog Pad Records, an independent record label run by the band, in the fall of 1999. From 1999 to 2001 they performed as one of the many attractions at NedFest, [3] a music festival held in the band's hometown.
Bluegrass Unlimited is a founding member of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA). [4] Folklorist and music scholar Neil V. Rosenberg, in Bluegrass: A History, sets out the history of Bluegrass Unlimited and thereafter notes its prominence and influence as the oldest of the nationally distributed bluegrass magazines. [5]
The International Bluegrass Music Association, or IBMA, is a trade association to promote bluegrass music. Formed in 1985, IBMA established its first headquarters in Owensboro, Kentucky . In 1988 they announced plans to create the International Bluegrass Music Museum as a joint venture with RiverPark Center in Owensboro.
Folk and traditional music in Colorado has been an integral part of the local popular culture in the last century. The Colorado Bluegrass Music Society exists to promote Coloradan bluegrass music , and publishes a magazine called Pow'r Pickin' .
After helping found the band Dusty Miller, which was the 1990 SPBGMA International Bluegrass Band champion, and being a member (1990–92) of Alison Krauss & Union Station, Kingsport, Tennessee native Tim Stafford helped organize Blue Highway with Wayne Taylor in 1994.
The album was top ten on both the Bluegrass Unlimited chart and the Gavin Americana chart. [3] In early 2015, Bradley left her record label Compass Records for Pinecastle Records, with whom she recorded her first solo album. The inductees into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame were recognized during the awards. These included Alison Krauss, Lynn Morris, and The Stoneman Family.
