I'm trying to simlulate an RPM signal for an aftermarket ECU (Megasquirt) for a Miata - the tacho signal itself is a simple squarewave of (I believe) 0-12v amplitude, with one pulse per ignition event.

Nov 18, 2009. #1. I would like to build a circuit that will produce a square wave emulating a crank sensor signal. I know how to build a circuit to produce a square wave with a 555 timer and use a variable resistor to change the frequency. The problem is most engine controllers look for and extra wide tooth on the wheel, like a 60 -2 wheel.
The CKP sensor works in conjunction with. a 24X reluctor wheel mounted on the rear of the. crankshaft. The CKP sensor has a battery power. supply, an earth, and a signal circuit. As the crankshaft rotates, the reluctor wheel teeth. interrupt a magnetic field produced by a magnet. within the sensor. The sensor's internal circuitry.

Let's say the engine is seeing 1000 rpm at the crank and the sun gear read by the trans sensor is supposed to see 500rpm, how complex would modifying that signal be? I've never messed with microcontrollers. Also attached is a link to a YouTube video showing what I believe is the world's first manual swapped Mercedes of my generation.
