Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) is a public university in Lee County, Florida, near Fort Myers. It is part of the State University System of Florida and is its second-youngest member. Swanson Stadium is a baseball park located on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida, next to Alico Arena, the school's basketball facility. Opened in 2004, the stadium was renamed in 2005 for Duane and Cookie Swanson, local civic leaders and FGCU supporters.
Facilities for the center were located in the Bay County School Board Office Building and Gulf Coast Community College. In 1976, the Bay County Commission purchased 17.5 acres (71,000 m 2) located between Gulf Coast Community College and the beautiful waters of North Bay. The commission deeded the land to the State for use by the center.
