Coal Miner's Daughter is a 1980 American biographical musical film directed by Michael Apted and written by Tom Rickman.It follows the story of country music singer Loretta Lynn from her early teen years in a poor family and getting married at 15 to her rise as one of the most influential country musicians.
Bob Elkins was born in 1932 in Mount Hope, West Virginia, the son of a struggling coal miner. At age four, he moved with his father, mother and two sisters to Muncie, Indiana, where his father took a job at a lawnmower company. At about that time, the elder Elkins inexplicably became withdrawn and stopped talking to his son.
