During the early period of the historic markers (1926–1939), the State Historian [SED] dispersed applications throughout the state to be reviewed and approved. The State then paid for the casting of the markers and planned their installation. Records of these markers were kept, and are available from the State Archives.
This is a list of New York State Historic Markers by county. There are over 2800 historical markers in New York State. The program was started in 1926 to commemorate the Sesquicentennial of the Revolutionary War and was discontinued in 1966. It was managed under the Department of the Education’s State History Office.

The old church was replaced by a new memorial church and rectory in 1902 as a gift from Countess Carola de Laugier-Villars and her sister, Mrs. Geraldyn Redmond, in memory of their mother. The new stone church was consecrated on June 28, 1903, by Cardinal Farley. The parish school, also a memorial gift, was established in 1888.
