Hanging Rock State Park offers over 48 miles (77 km) of trails where visitors can hike to its numerous peaks and waterfalls. The park has a 73-site tent and trailer campground (minus R/V hookups) and 10 vacation cabins for overnight accommodations. The lake and bathhouse, open from Memorial Day – Labor Day, offers swimming and boat rentals.
The range is home to Hanging Rock State Park, which was formed in 1936 and contains Moore's Knob and other prominent peaks. From 1935 to 1942, the Civilian Conservation Corps , a New Deal agency, built a dam and 12-acre (49,000 m 2 ) lake in the park, as well as hiking and climbing trails and picnic and campground areas.
Horse races have been held at Hanging Rock for over 100 years; [14] the Hanging Rock Racing Club holds two race meetings a year, on New Year's Day and Australia Day (26 January). [ 15 ] The Friends of Hanging Rock, established in 1987, is a community group that holds events open to the public, such as planting days and wildlife tours.

The Grassy Ridge Trail follows along the mountain's base, connecting the lower ends of the Mountain and Grindstone Trails together. The Grassy Ridge Trail also connects to the Corridor Trail, which goes to the park's river section, and it connects to the Mountains-to-Sea and Sauratown Trails, which go to Hanging Rock State Park.
