Rock layers of the Moenkopi Formation in Zion National Park. The Moenkopi Formation is a geological formation that is spread across the U.S. states of New Mexico, northern Arizona, Nevada, southeastern California, eastern Utah and western Colorado. This unit is considered to be a group in Arizona.
The Wingate Campground features 4 yurts, 20 RV campsites and 11 hike-in tent-only sites. There are five additional yurts at the Moenkopi Yurt area. A coffee shop serves food and beverages. Dead Horse Point State Park features an 8-mile (13 km) hiking trail that includes loops and overlooks on the East Rim Trail and the West Rim Trail.
The fossilized plants and animals in the Moenkopi are evidence of a climate shift to a warm tropical setting that may have experienced monsoonal, wet-dry conditions. [8] The Red Canyon Conglomerate, the basal member of the Moenkopi, fills broad east-flowing paleochannels carved into the Kaibab Limestone. [9]
The campground, south of Grand Canyon National Park, will be REI's fourth Signature Camp. The others are near Bryce, Zion and Great Smoky Mountains.

The youngest member of the Moenkopi is the 320 to 430 foot (98 to 130 m) thick Moody Canyon Member. Moody Canyon is informally sub-divided into two units: [10] a lower slope-forming 200 to 300 foot (60 to 90 m) thick unit of reddish-brown siltstone and; an upper cliff-forming 120 to 130 foot (37 to 40 m) thick unit of reddish-orange siltstone.
