Ranville (French pronunciation: ⓘ) is a commune in the Calvados department in the Normandy region in northwestern France. Ranville was the first French village liberated on D-Day . The village was liberated by the British 13th Parachute Battalion, commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Luard.
Centreville developed around a tavern founded there in 1831 by European-American settler, Thomas W. Langley. It was incorporated as a village in 1837. [6] The St. Joseph County Courthouse was built in 1842.
