The Icelandic virtual reality content company Solfar developed Everest VR as one of two games for release in 2016. They constructed their virtual Everest using stereophotogrammetry, which used supercomputers to combine photographs taken from a variety of angles to generate a color, three-dimensional image in high resolution.

The ascent of Kala Patthar begins at Gorakshep (5,163 m or 16,939 ft), the original base camp for Mt. Everest. After a brief dip to an ancient lake bed (which now contains a small lake and a helipad), the ascent makes its way up a series of steep switchbacks before levelling off somewhat as it traverses to the eastern side of the mountain.
The closest sea to Mount Everest's summit is the Bay of Bengal, almost 700 km (430 mi) away. To approximate a climb of the entire height of Mount Everest, one would need to start from this coastline, a feat accomplished by Tim Macartney-Snape's team in 1990. Climbers usually begin their ascent from base camps above 5,000 m (16,404 ft).
The west and south faces of the peak offer more difficult technical routes. Mera Peak provides 360-degree panoramic views of five mountains over 8000m: Mount Everest (8848m), Kangchenjunga (8586m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8485m) and Cho Oyu (8201m) as well as many other peaks of Khumbu Region.
Currently, the majority of those who try to climb the 8,849-meter (29,032-foot) Himalayan peak do so via Nepal. Last year, the Nepali government gave out a record-high 478 Everest hiking permits.
