The episodes for the seventeenth season of the anime series Naruto: Shippuden are based on Part II for Masashi Kishimoto's manga series. The season continues with the repentant Sasuke Uchiha joining with Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno, Kakashi Hatake and the allied shinobi forces to battle against Madara Uchiha and Obito Uchiha.
When Obito is joined by Madara, who nonchalantly reveals that he dispatched the five Kage to Naruto and his allies. Naruto and Sasuke overwhelm Obito, allowing Naruto to free the tailed beasts inside him. During the transfer, Naruto subconsciously convinces Obito to return to their side and become the man he once was.
