The company was founded in 1815 in Louisville, Kentucky, by Jacob Lewis and operated as Lewis Pottery. [4] It changed ownership many times in the following decades, and operated under various names including Bauer Pottery, Cherokee Pottery and Louisville Pottery, among others.
Matthew Blakely is a distinguished and internationally known potter. He was born in the United Kingdom and emigrated to Australia in 1988 where he studied at the National Art School in Sydney, winning the State Medal in 1993. He moved back to England in 2002 and lives near Cambridge. [1] Of his work, he says:
