Atrium Health Pineville [1] (Formerly Mercy Hospital South, later Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville) is a 235 [2] bed acute care facility located in Pineville, North Carolina. The hospital was opened in 1987 by the Sisters of Mercy to serve the rapidly growing southern part of Mecklenburg County.
South Side ended its hospital designation on June 30, 2009, when the emergency department closed its doors, transferring patients to UPMC Mercy. UPMC South Side reopened as the UPMC Mercy South Side Outpatient Center on July 1, 2009. [5] The facility ceased outpatient servies in 2018 and was sold to a developer in 2023. [6]

Rockford Hospital opened in 1855 and was the city's first hospital. By 1913, the hospital outgrew its 11-patient capacity in a made-over home at South Court and Chestnut streets, and a 30-patient hospital was built, with the hospital's name being changed to Rockford Memorial Hospital in 1942.
