The name "camera lucida" (Latin for 'light chamber') is intended to recall the much older drawing aid, the camera obscura (Latin for 'dark chamber'). There is no optical similarity between the devices. The camera lucida is a lightweight, portable device that does not require special lighting conditions.
Nikon Small World (Nikon's Small World) is a photographic contest run by Nikon Instruments and a forum for showcasing the beauty and complexity of life as seen through the light microscope. [1] It serves as a window into a world that can only be seen through the lens of an optical microscope. The contest comprises two separate competitions:
A miniature USB microscope with inbuilt LED lights next to the lens at left. Sea salt crystals seen with a USB microscope. Table salt crystals seen with a USB microscope. The top side of a sage leaf seen with a USB microscope - trichomes are visible. The USB image of the underside of a sage leaf - more trichomes are visible on this side.
Long before his discovery of the dry gelatin photographic emulsion, Maddox was prominent in what was called photomicrography - photographing minute organisms under the microscope. The eminent photomicrographer of the day, Lionel S. Beale, included as a frontispiece images made by Maddox in his manual 'How to work with the Microscope' [ 1 ]
The first light field camera was proposed by Gabriel Lippmann in 1908. He called his concept "integral photography".Lippmann's experimental results included crude integral photographs made by using a plastic sheet embossed with a regular array of microlenses, or by partially embedding small glass beads, closely packed in a random pattern, into the surface of the photographic emulsion.
The optical microscope, also referred to as a light microscope, is a type of microscope that commonly uses visible light and a system of lenses to generate magnified images of small objects. Optical microscopes are the oldest design of microscope and were possibly invented in their present compound form in the 17th century.
Light field microscopy (LFM) is a scanning-free 3-dimensional (3D) microscopic imaging method based on the theory of light field. This technique allows sub-second (~10 Hz) large volumetric imaging ([~0.1 to 1 mm] 3) with ~1 μm spatial resolution in the condition of weak scattering and semi-transparence, which has never been achieved by other methods.
All enlargers consist of a light source, normally an incandescent light bulb shining though a condenser or translucent screen to provide even illumination, a holder for the negative or transparency, and a specialized lens for projection, though some, such as the Rapid Rectilinear or Aplanat [citation needed] could be used in both camera and enlarger.
