The "bonus rule" was later repealed in 2016 for most UAAP sports. In the new rule, a team which finishes the elimination round has a bye to the finals and the championship is a best-of-3 series only, while the other three teams will play in a stepladder semifinals round with the number 2 seed getting a twice-to-beat advantage.
