The Irvine Barclay Theatre, often referred to as The Barclay, is a 755-seat performing arts venue in Irvine, California, located on the campus of the University of California, Irvine. Jointly owned by the city and university, it opened in 1990 and has hosted various musicians, bands, plays, and guest speakers.
The Barclay Theatre hosts a variety of musical and performance events in a hall noted for its acoustic design. It is also home to the UCI Symphony Orchestra and plays host to prestigious guest speakers as well. For instance, two recent guests hosted by the Irvine Barclay Theater were the XIV Dalai Lama and former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
The school was named in honor of Academy Award-winning Hollywood actress Claire Trevor (1910–2000), [1] a longtime resident of nearby Newport Beach and the stepmother of UCI benefactor Donald Bren. The school represents the largest contribution to the campus by architect William Pereira , who oversaw its construction in 1970.
It is a 65,000 assignable (90,000 gross) square-foot multi-purpose facility servicing the university and all of southern California. It features a 22,000-square-foot (2,000 m 2) arena which hosts UCI Anteater Basketball, volleyball and serves as a general assembly space for special events.
