Transport Canberra (TC) is the transport agency equivalent in the ACT, in charge of managing Canberra's public transport network, including ACTION buses and Canberra Light Rail, as well as active travel. It was formed from combining the public transport division of the TAMS with Capital Metro Agency, the agency in charge of the light rail project.
The Canberra Metro light rail system provides service within the city itself as part of Canberra's public transport network. [5] It opened in April 2019, its development coinciding with a resurgent focus on urban train transport in Australia. [6] The initial 12-kilometre (7.5 mi) line runs from the city centre to the northern suburbs. [7]

ACTION is a business unit of the Public Transport Division of Transport Canberra & City Services. Transport Canberra was formed on 1 July 2016 by combining the Public Transport Division and Capital Metro Agency to manage all public transport operations within the ACT. [12] [13] [14]
In September 2017, Transport Canberra began looking for a replacement ticketing system to coincide with the opening of the light rail. The MyWay system is being replaced with MyWay+. [9] It was turned off on 20 September 2024. [10] [11]

[ 11 ] In 1994, the ACT Government commissioned a study into light rail, based on the findings of an independent report that light rail would be viable in Canberra by 1998. [ 12 ]
