Anna Biedrzycka Sheppard (born 18 January 1946) is a Polish costume designer. Sheppard made many films with directing masters like Steven Spielberg , Roman PolaĆski , and Quentin Tarantino . She has earned three Academy Award for Best Costume Design nominations for Schindler's List (1993), The Pianist (2002), and Maleficent (2014).

The character was animated by Marc Davis, who also animated Aurora in the film. She was aptly named "Maleficent" (an adjective derived from the Latin maleficentia, which means "doing evil or harm"), [7] and may have been based on earlier French and European myths and legends about the fairy Mélusine, especially in the 2014 live-action film of the same name.
