Before changing its name and handing over the management of the hotels to Marriott, Ryman Hospitality was named Gaylord Entertainment Company. [2] Until the Nashville hotel's 1996 expansion to almost 3,000 rooms and subsequent announcement of a future Opryland Hotel Florida, the hospitality group was a modest division of the Opryland USA properties of Gaylord Entertainment.
The center was originally named the Gaylord Potomac Resort & Convention Center; the name was changed in the planning stage. The hotel contains 2,000 guest rooms, 95 event rooms, 537,430 square feet (49,929 m 2 ) of meeting space, seven restaurants , and a 20,000-square-foot (1,900 m 2 ) spa .
In 2021, Gaylord Palms opened its largest expansion ever, a $158-million project which added 100,000 square feet of convention space and more than 300 guest rooms and suites. It's Cypress Springs Water Park was also expanded with the addition of an "action river" attraction. [3] Gaylord Palms is a member of Great Hotels Of The World alliance.
The company agreed to sell the Gaylord Hotels division, including the brand with a 35-year management contract, to Marriott International in May 2012, while retaining ownership of the hotels. [59] The company also announced that they would not continue developing the Aurora, Colorado hotel-convention center. [ 60 ]
