Ridgeway High opened in 1971 as an original member of the Memphis City Schools system, hosting students from grades 7–12. The first class of graduates was in 1973 with approximately 175 students. Ridgeway High School now only houses grades 9–12 with the recent addition of Ridgeway Middle School in 2001.

In 2013 the district board voted to close Elma Elementary School; Lime Springs-Chester remained open as the facilities in Cresco could not hold all grades. [8] In 2008 Ridgeway Elementary School closed. The Ridgeway city government bought the school in 2010. In 2011 Sherill and Jeff Ryan bought the school and converted it into a shrimp farm. [9]

A second elementary school, Ridgeway Elementary School, was previously located in Ridgeway but closed at the end of the 2020 school year after being consolidated with Dodgeville Elementary School.
