[3] In 2019, the Indian Army built a suspension bridge in 40 days, connecting Choglamsar to Chuchat Yakma and Stok. The university was founded in 1887 by King Chulalongkorn with the purpose of establishing a higher education institute for Buddhist monks, novices, and laypersons with an emphasis on Buddhist studies and other subjects. The university began offering classes in 1889.
The Shri Shankaracharya Institute of Technology and Management (SSITM) Bhilai [1] [2] is a unit of Shri Shankaracharya Technical Campus (SSTC), managed by the Shri Gangajali Education Society (SGES), approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) [3] [4] and affiliated to Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Technical University Bhilai (CSVTU), [5] and is named after Adi Shankaracharya.
The college offers a 5-year-long doctorate program after which scholars graduate with a Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies. Per academic year, the college only accepts 4 new students. This low enrollment number allows for the college to maintain its 20-person capacity in order to provide the most personalized curriculum for students.
The university offers Bachelor of Arts (Sāsanatakkasīla Dhammācariya), Master of Arts (Sāsanatakkasīla Mahādhammācariya) and Ph.D (Sāsanatakkasīla Dhammapāragū) degrees, [2] which are conferred as Burmese Buddhist titles. In 2018, 51 titles were conferred to Buddhist monks.
