The Delft University of Technology (TU Delft; Dutch: Technische Universiteit Delft) is the oldest and largest Dutch public technical university, located in Delft, The Netherlands. It specializes in engineering , technology , computing , design , and natural sciences .
The 4TU.School for Technological Design, Stan Ackermans Institute (4TU.SAI) was started in 1986 at TU/e; the name was chosen in honor of prof.dr. S.T.M. Ackermans, the rector magnificus of the university who retired the year before and who spent a good deal of his career lobbying for more attention in university education to the needs of the companies who would employ the graduates.
In 2023 the TU Delft reached the 3rd place in the "Mechanical, aerospace and Manufacturing Engineering" category of the QS World University Rankings. In 2013 this category got extended to "Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering" and the TU Delft jumped to the 18th position worldwide (6th place in Europe). [ 4 ]
