Martin was born March 26, 1919, [2] in Kokomo, Indiana to Ethel (née Dunlap) and Strother Douglas Martin. [3] For a short time, the Martins lived in San Antonio, Texas, but soon returned to Indiana. Martin University (originally Martin Center College) is a private college in Indianapolis, Indiana.
