The Union County School District is a public school district based in Union County, Mississippi . The district serves the towns of Blue Springs and Myrtle, the Union County part of Sherman, and most of rural Union County, as well as small portions of New Albany. [2] Its headquarters are in New Albany. [3]
There were a total of 2,201 students enrolled in the New Albany School District during the 2006–2007 school year. The gender makeup of the district was 48% female and 52% male. The racial makeup of the district was 34.58% African American, 58.75% White, 5.95% Hispanic, and 0.73% Asian.
The only high school in Union County for Black students was Union County Training School in New Albany, which was founded in 1812. [18] Like other schools for African-American students, the Training School was not government funded. In 1964, the school system began a slow process of integrating the races.

The agricultural high school status was dropped a year later. The name of the school changed again to its current form in 1987. It has extension centers located in New Albany, Ripley and Corinth. Northeast Mississippi Community College's service area is made up of five counties: Alcorn, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo, and Union. [1]
