Parsons School of Design, known colloquially as Parsons, is a private art and design college located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City.Founded in 1896 after a group of progressive artists broke away from established Manhattan art academies in protest of limited creative autonomy, Parsons is one of the oldest schools of art and design in New York.
Beginning in 1986, students matriculating in the Parsons Paris program were eligible to receive a degree from Parsons School of Design. In 2008, the contract between Parsons School of Design and Parsons Paris expired, and following a ruling by the International Chamber of Commerce in favour of Parsons, the Parsons name was dropped in 2010. Timothy MacKenzie Gunn (born July 29, 1953) is an American author, academic, and television personality. He served on the faculty of Parsons School of Design from 1982 to 2007 and was chair of fashion design at the school from August 2000 to March 2007, after which he joined Liz Claiborne (now Kate Spade & Company) as its chief creative officer.

From 1978 until 1991, it was affiliated with New York's Parsons School of Design and known as Otis–Parsons (full name: Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design, a division of the New School for Social Research).
