Stuyvesant High School (/ ˈ s t aɪ v ə s ən t / STY-və-sənt) [9] is a co-ed, public, college-preparatory, specialized high school in Manhattan, New York City, New York.The school, commonly referred to among its students, faculty and alumni as "Stuy" (/ s t aɪ / STY), [9] [10] [11] specializes in developing talent in math, science and technology.
The 9th-grade SHSAT cut-off scores tend to be much higher due to limited seats for incoming 10th-graders in the schools. Some schools, such as Stuyvesant and Bronx Science, may only have 3-10 seats each year for incoming 10th graders, while Brooklyn Technical High School, being the school with the most students, may only have around 20-30 seats.
The paper, founded in 1915, is one of Stuyvesant's oldest publications. [1] It has a long-standing connection with its older namesake, Columbia University's Columbia Daily Spectator , and it has been recognized by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism 's Columbia Scholastic Press Association on several occasions. In June 2011, Principal Jie Zhang was transferred to Stuyvesant High School, and Dr. David Marmor took her place. Dr. Marmor left after the 2012–13 school year and the position was then held by Lenneen Gibson as Principal until October 2016, where she was then temporarily replaced by B.D. Anthony.
