Bhimdatta Panta (Nepali: भिमदत्त पन्त) was a farmer, revolutionary leader and a martyr from Dadeldhura District of Nepal.He is known for raising a protest in favour of peasants and oppressed farmers in the Far-Western Region of Nepal by the landlord's "elite Thakuris".
The city and the municipality were named Mahendranagar in honour of the late King Mahendra of Nepal. After becoming a republic in 2008, the Mahendranagar municipality name was changed to Bhimdatta municipality in honour of the revolutionary farmer leader Bhimdatta Panta. [3]
Nirmala Panta was a ninth-grade student from Ward 2 of Bhimdatta. [1] On 26 July 2018, she left her home to study at her friend Roshani Bam's house. [1] República reported that she went to Bam's house, 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) from her own, at around 11 a.m. [2] She left at around 3 p.m. but did not return home. [2]
Many have associated his family with the assassination of the revolutionary political figure Bhimdatta Panta due to their rivalry which quelled unrest in the Mahakali, Darchula region. Martyrs (Nepali: नेपालका सहिद; Shahid) in Nepal is a term for someone who makes contributions for the welfare of the country or society. The term was originally used for individuals who died while opposing the Rana Regime which was in place in the Kingdom of Nepal from 1846 until 1951.
The district, with Bhimdatta as its district headquarters, covers an area of 1,610 square kilometres (620 sq mi) and had a population of 134,868 in 2001 and 171,304 in 2011. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It is located in south-western of Nepal.
