ACHS was originally named Antioch Township High School when it was founded in 1915. In February 1926, voters approved $65,000 to build a two-story north wing to the existing high school, which served 184 students at the time. In 1953, the school was improved once again with the addition of a new wing expanding the school further north.

St. Peter is located in southeastern Fayette County. Illinois Route 185 passes through the village, leading northwest 17 miles (27 km) to Vandalia, the county seat, and southeast 6.5 miles (10.5 km) to Farina. According to the 2021 census gazetteer files, St. Peter has a total area of 0.52 square miles (1.35 km 2), all land. [4]
In July 1924, Fr. Charles Conley was appointed pastor of St. Mary's parish and was named superintendent of the school. Enrollment increased during that year and 6 acres of property adjacent to St. Vincent's orphanage was acquired to build an independent high school. The name was changed to Aquin High School at the start of the 1924 school year. [3]
