Mizrah (also spelled Mizrach, Mizrakh) (Hebrew: מִזְרָח, romanized: mīzrāḥ) is the "east" and the direction that Jews in the Diaspora west of Israel face during prayer. Practically speaking, Jews face the city of Jerusalem when praying, and those north, east, or south of Jerusalem face south, west, and north respectively.
Kibbutz Mizra was established during Hanukkah in 1923 by the first immigrants of the Third Aliyah.It was founded on the lands of the Palestinian Arab village of Rub al-Nasra, which were purchased from the Sursock family, a major absentee landowner of Lebanese origin.
The film tells the story of a Sephardi family of Egyptian Jewish immigrants from Alexandria that settle in 1947 Tel Aviv. The family consists of a 33-year-old widowed wife, Clara, (played by Gila Almagor , one of the most prominent actresses in Israel for the last three decades) and her four children.
As of March 2009, Mizrahi was living in Tel Aviv, leading film-making workshop in Tel Aviv University's film school. His wife, Michal Bat-Adam, is a film director as well as an actress and played lead roles in several of Mizrahi's films. Today, she teaches acting classes at Tel Aviv University.
