Urbandale is located in the northwest part of the Des Moines Metro Area at the intersections of Interstates 35 and 80, and Iowa Highway 141.According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 21.94 square miles (56.82 km 2), of which 21.92 square miles (56.77 km 2) is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 km 2) is water.
Windsor Heights is surrounded by other cities: Urbandale to the north, Clive to the west, West Des Moines to the south, and Des Moines to the east.
