Stonecoal Creek is a tributary of the West Fork River, 12.8 miles (20.6 km) long, [3] in north-central West Virginia in the United States.Via the West Fork, Monongahela and Ohio Rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River, draining an area of 41 square miles (110 km 2) [4] on the unglaciated portion of the Allegheny Plateau.
The former Fork Creek Wildlife Management Area was located on 7,000 acres (2,800 ha) in Boone County near Nellis, West Virginia. [1] The steep terrain and narrow valleys are mostly covered with second-growth mixed hardwoods. Originally established in 1960 with a lease from Armco Steel, the land was subsequently purchased by Island Creek Coal.
Upper Deckers Creek Wildlife Management Area, is located about 1 mile (1.6 km) north of Reedsville, West Virginia in Preston County. Upper Deckers Creek WMA is located on 56 acres (23 ha), consisting of two small fishing ponds and surrounding forested rolling hills. [2] The WMA is accessed from County Route 27/3 about one mile north of Reedsville.
A small (5 acres (2.0 ha)) lake provides fishing opportunities for largemouth bass, bluegill and channel catfish, as well as stocked trout. A special permit is required to pursue trapping of muskrat, raccoon, mink or fox. [2] A shooting range is available for gun enthusiasts. Rustic camping sites are available for tents and small trailers. [4]
The WMA contains four fishing lakes, 8-acre (3.2 ha) Bear Lake, 4-acre (1.6 ha) Rock Lake, 3.4-acre (1.4 ha) Baker Lake, and 0.5-acre (0.20 ha) Wood Pond. Fishing opportunities in the Bear Rock Lakes include stocked trout, largemouth bass, bluegill and channel catfish. [3] Bear Lake has a handicapped accessible fishing trail.
