Fort Moore (formerly Fort Benning) is a United States Army post in the Columbus, Georgia area. Located on Georgia 's border with Alabama , Fort Moore supports more than 120,000 active-duty military, family members, reserve component soldiers, retirees and civilian employees on a daily basis.
The Army created a rudimentary landing field at Benning in 1919 with the initial mission of determining if data obtained by balloon observation would benefit the infantry. The airfield consisted of two small hangars that housed the balloon unit. In 1922, the Army made the facility a permanent Army post renaming the camp Fort Benning.

Riverside is a historic property in Fort Moore, Georgia. [2] The residence has been home to the fort's commandants. [3] It was completed in 1909. [3] The house includes a kitchen moved to its present location on logs. [3] Riverside was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 27, 1971. It is located at 100 Vibbert Avenue.

Fort Benning South is a former census-designated place [2] (CDP) in Chattahoochee County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Columbus, Georgia-Alabama metropolitan statistical area. The population was 11,737 at last official census (2000). The area is now part of consolidated Cusseta–Chattahoochee County.
The museum is located on a 155-acre campus adjacent to Fort Moore. The campus includes Inouye Field, sprinkled with soil from the battlegrounds of Yorktown, Antietam, Soissons, Normandy, Corregidor, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, [3] and a 2,100-seat stadium which hosts graduations of Army trainees. The graduations are open to the public.
