Michigan began playing intercollegiate women's basketball in 1973–74, when inaugural head coach Vic Katch led the team to a 3–8 record (0–1 against Big Ten teams). [2] There was no form of conference competition for the Wolverines until the 1976–77 season, and even then it was not officially sanctioned by the Big Ten until 1982–83. [ 2 ]

In 2012, the Eagles defeated their rival, the Central Michigan Chippewas, 72–71 on a layup by Paige Reddit with only 1.5 seconds left on the game clock to win. They have also reached the WNIT in 2006, 2010, 2011, 2015, and 2016, with an appearance in the Women's Basketball Invitational in 2014.
In 2017, she became the first girl to dunk in a game in Colorado high school history. [8] In February 2019, she pulled off the first ever alley-oop dunk by a female in a high school game in Colorado. [ 9 ] [ 10 ] As a senior she averaged 21.8 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.4 steals, 2.7 blocks and 2.3 assists per game.
