Merchants Millpond State Park is a North Carolina state park in Gates County, North Carolina, in the United States.Located near Gatesville, in North Carolina's coastal plain, it covers 3,520 acres (14.2 km 2) [2] around a 200-year-old, 700-acre (280 ha) millpond and Lassiter Swamp.
In 1973 A.B. Coleman donated 925 acres (3.74 km 2) of land in the Millpond to the state. This was the basis of the Merchants Millpond State Park. [citation needed] In 1984 a tornado struck Gates County, killing two people and causing an estimated $500,000 to $5,000,000 worth of damage. Hurricane Floyd hit Gates County in 1999. The park was named after L. D. Frutchey, who donated the core property to the state, and it was later renamed "Town Creek State Park".
