W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. is an American multinational manufacturing company specializing in products derived from fluoropolymers. It is a privately held corporation headquartered in Newark, Delaware. It is best known as the developer of waterproof, breathable Gore-Tex fabrics.
In clothing and similar applications, a gore is a triangular or trapezoidal piece of a textile as might be used in shaping a garment to fit contours of the body. The word is derived from Old English gār, meaning spear. In the course of time the word came to be used for a piece of cloth used in making clothes. [1]
In 1911, Harry David Lee made the first bib overalls, made of pants with pockets with a bib and straps over the shoulders. [3] In 1927, Lee's developed a "hook-less fastener" and created "button-less" overalls. Zippers replaced buttons. [3] Soon after, suspender buttons were traded in for belt loops to attach over-the-shoulder straps. [3]
