Philadelphia International Records (PIR) was an American record label based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1971 by songwriting and production duo Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff along with their longtime collaborator Thom Bell .
Cameo-Parkway Records was the parent company of Cameo Records and Parkway Records, which were major American Philadelphia-based record labels from 1956 (for Cameo) and 1958 (for Parkway) to 1967. Among the types of music released were doo-wop , dance hits , popular/rock , rockabilly , big band , garage rock , soul and novelty records .
The label also had other artists such as Nat Turner Rebellion and David Lasley. It, along with Philadelphia International Records, was instrumental in establishing the Philadelphia soul sound. The label was distributed by Bell Records from its inception in 1967 until 1974, when the label closed down shortly after Bell Records became Arista Records.
