In 1962 Archbishop Joseph Rummel of New Orleans dedicated a new high school on the West Bank and named it in honor of Shaw. The school was built on the same 70-acre plot of land that was used by Hope Haven. Paul Avallone was the school's founding principal. Originally, only a small complex was built to meet the needs of the developing West Bank.
Academy of Our Lady is located at 5501 Westbank Expressway Marrero, Louisiana 70072. It is located next to Archbishop Shaw High School, and has been at this address since mid-2014 when the school relocated to the new state-of-the-art campus.
When the authorities arrived, they arrested Lane and Sawyer and rushed Arwood to West Jefferson Hospital. Arwood, who arrived at the hospital in a coma, had third degree burns all over her body, lacerations on her chin, and swelling of the face and neck. She died on November 21, 1979, approximately two months later.
