Yes, Luna Display will enable you to use your 2020 iMac with a 27" display as a monitor for a Mac mini after the initial setup process. For this setup, you'll need a USB-C Luna unit , which plugs directly into your Mac mini.
Mac Mini (16GB RAM, 256GB HD), £569.05 --> savings of £1235 At the end of the day, I'm going to go to the Apple store on Monday and take a look in person at the iMac and mac mini with studio display. When there, I will decided whether or not I must have the better screen of the iMac, or go for the cheaper price and raw power of the mini.
I use a Mini M1 (8/256, ie base model) linked to a Sony Bravia 55” via HDMI, mainly for iPlayer, with Apple keyboard and mouse (both wireless), and it works very well. FWIW, I have also used the M1 mini with a 4K Samsung tv, and whereas the M1 works fine with both, my older Intel mini didn’t scale well with the Samsung, but was fine with ...
With the button placement on the bottom I want to see some VESA mounts for the back of TV’s that effectively turn any screen into an iMac by utilizing this new tiny Mac Mini. If you can secure the Mac mini in such a way that the power button is on the bottom corner facing out to the back then it’d be a very similar experience to an iMac ...
iMac can display things on a built-in display, Mac mini can't. iMac can play stereo sound out loud, Mac mini can't. Mac mini can be configured with M4 Pro, iMac can't. Mac mini can use whatever size/resolution display that you want as default, iMac can't.
Would love to hear if the original post on compatibility still holds for the new Mac mini with M1 chips. I have a 27" iMac (mid-2010, with Mini DisplayPort) and just ordered a new Mac mini (late 2020 with M1 and Thunderbolt). Apple page for the new Mac mini states: Thunderbolt 3 digital video output supports. Native DisplayPort output over USB‑C
Connecting a Mac mini to an external XDR or Studio display using a single Thunderbolt cable for power and video would be a very clean setup. Another interesting scenario could be powering the Mac mini with a power bank, both in your backpack, and using an 13" iPad Pro with Mac Virtual Display (or Apple Vision Pro with Mac Virtual Display).
Apple this week made three key Mac product announcements: new iMac, Mac mini, and MacBook Pro models. These machines bring the M4 chip series to Apple's Mac lineup for the first time, but each in its own way offers several new features and changes that go beyond processors. Below, we've...
I am starting a new thread with all known information about the lack of 4k HiDPI support with the M4/M4 Pro Mac mini, as there is a lot of varying information floating around. I wish I knew about this limitation before purchasing my M4 Pro mini, so want to make sure others are aware of the issue.
USB-C to Mini-DisplayPort should definitely be what you need. I use a USB-C (male) to Mini-DisplayPort (female) adapter, then a Mini-DisplayPort (male) to Mini-DisplayPort (male) cable from the adapter to a 2010 iMac 27. As stated above, sometimes you need to press Cmd+F2 on the iMac keyboard to enable Target Display Mode.
