The following is a timeline for Google Street View, a technology implemented in Google Maps and Google Earth that provides ground-level interactive panoramas of cities. The service was first introduced in the United States on May 25, 2007, and initially covered only five cities: San Francisco, Las Vegas, Denver, Miami, and New York City.
Apple’s Look Around (featured in Apple Maps) provides street view for Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Nagoya. Kazakhstan: Russian company Yandex offers street panoramas for Astana, Almaty and Karaganda, as does Google Street View. [15] Kuwait: Kuwait Finder app, by the government of Kuwait, provides street view for most of the country.

Since August 2015, Google Maps has supported plus codes in its search engine. [7] The shortened plus code is displayed for a location, may be copied , clicked, or transcribed, and can be entered into the address box (followed by the town or city name if not local and using shortened code) to display the location on the map.
Google has also published a reverse geocoding API which can be adapted for online reverse geocoding tools, which uses the same street reference layer as Google maps. [2] The other popular reverse geocoding services utilise various search engines [3] based on OpenStreetMap data.
