The lake was created in 1942 by damming Wolf Creek, although the work actually began in 1938. [2] The primary purposes of the lake are for flood control and conservational storage. Its normal elevation is 2,400 feet (730 m). The maximum volume of water is 13,900 acre-feet (17,100,000 m 3). The lake has 26 miles (42 km) of shoreline. [3]
Daily fishing or boating permits are required for all persons intending to engage in those activities on the lake, regardless of age. Permits are issued by the city of Bixby at the City Hall, and as of 2017 were $5.00 per day or $15.00 per year, with no charge for persons ages 65 years old or over and for children age 11 years old and under.
The Great Salt Plains Lake is located at the park and covers 9,300 acres (38 km 2) with 41 miles (66 km) of shoreline and is a shallow, salty lake with fishing opportunities for catfish, saugeye, sandbass and hybrid striper. The average depth is reportedly 4 feet (1.2 m) and the impoundment capacity is 31,420 acre-feet.
Raymond Gary Lake is a reservoir in southeastern Oklahoma, United States, one mile east of the town of Fort Towson in Choctaw County. It was constructed on Gates Creek in 1956 by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. [2] Its primary uses are for fishing and general recreation. [3]
